TOM HACKLER
PRESIDENT
Tom is in his 40th year as a manager with Duke Energy at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, NC. He and his wife Hope are the proud parents of one son, Powell. Tom serves his community in the following ways: President of Masonboro.org, Treasurer of the Coach Bill Dooley Education Foundation, Board of Directors of the Clark James Foundation/Good Shepherd Center, Chairman of the City of Wilmington Civil Service Commission, Vestry member of St James Episcopal Church, and as a member of the Masonboro Island Reserve Local Advisory Board. Tom enjoys spending his free time with family and friends.
NEAL ANDREW
VICE-PRESIDENT & Coastal reserve lAc member
N. Andrew is president and founder of Andrew Consulting Engineers, P.C. – a structural, marine and forensic engineering and project management firm in Wilmington, NC. Professionally, he serves our community as the vice chair of the New Hanover County Ports, Waterway and Beach Commission , is as an active member of the Wilmington Rotary and for the Cape Fear 50. He was selected as the PENC Southeast Chapter Engineer of the Year in 2012. He received a civil engineering degree from North Carolina State University and his master’s in structural engineering from Georgia Tech.
Andrew grew up in the marshes of Masonboro – earning boating rights before he earned his driver’s license. He became a member of Masonboro.Org in 2010 to protect his 25 year-old family tradition of camping on Masonboro Island each year. He was appointed to Coastal Reserve’s local advisory committee in 2012 and has served on Masonboro.Org board since 2011.
JACK KILBOURNE
TREASURER
John [Jack] D. Kilbourne co-founded Masonboro.Org in 2009 with Richard Johnson and Haywood Newkirk. His passion for the outdoors- boating, fishing, hunting and snow skiing – and his relationship with fellow Masonbillies (visitors to the island) Kibourne has been a member of the Maus, Warwick, Matthews & Co. real estate team for nearly 20 years. He is also a past president of the Realtor's Commercial Alliance of Southeast NC. Prior to starting his commercial real estate career, Jack managed a specialty outdoor and boating retail store for seven years. Kilbourne is Appalachian State University alum with a BS in Business Administration with a concentration on Marketing and International Business. He and his wife Lori have two children, Katy and Charlie.
RICHARD JOHNSON
CO-FOUNDER & COASTAL RESERVE LAC MEMBER
Richard is the founder and president of Masonboro.Org. He formed Masonboro.Org at the start of 2009 in an effort to dissuade regulations and preserve tradition uses of the island.
Johnson focuses his entrepreneurial skills by serving several non-porfit boards (including Wild Aid, Trout Unlimited and the Wilson Schoolhouse Community Center); the Bucknell Universy Alumni Association and UNCW's Cameron School of Business Advisory Board. He is also a Coastal Reserve Local Advisory Commission member.
He lives on Masonboro Sound with his wife, Carole and their four daughters.

BETH ANDREW

Beth Andrew joined the board in 2012 armed with a journalism degree from the University of North Carolina and a background in non-profit development. She serves as the head of communications and designs our newsletters, website, ILX volunteer coordination, and event planning. She currently serves as past-president of the Cape Fear Cyclists and event coordinator of the Tour de Blueberry. As an outdoors enthusiast, she’s an avid triathlete, USAT Level II Triathlon coach, and Pilates instructor. She’s a coach for the YWCA’s triathlon club and for New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s employee fitness center. When she’s not training for an iron-distance triathlon, you’ll find her with her husband, Neal, and their Boykin Spaniel Sunny Day on Masonboro Island.

Dwight Jessup
Secretary
Dwight has been living in the greater Wilmington area since 2009 and was elected as the Board Secretary in March of 2011. He grew up in the Guilford College area of North Carolina and graduated from UNC-CH in in 1979 with a BA in Recreation Administration and in 1991 with a Masters Degree in Public Health. He lives on a tributary of Whiskey Creek with his wife, Peggy, a Labradoodle, Bodie, and a Calico kitty, Mia. He also enjoys clamming and exploring the marshes, creeks and beaches of Masonboro Island.

Living in the greater Wilmington area for over twenty years, Mark joined the board in 2017. He graduated from UNCW in 2003 with a BA in Parks and Recreation Management with a concentration in Coastal Resource Recreation Management. As an avid surfer, fisherman, boater, and father of two young kids, Mark has a special connection to Masonboro Island and Masonboro.org’s mission of protecting public access, promoting responsible use and preserving the traditions of Masonboro Island to ensure his children have the same opportunity he has had to enjoy this natural treasure. Mark helps with public relations and is our multimedia expert.
